Production Notes - "One Thing On My Mind"

Latest fully-loaded rock cover. I only make these when the inspiration strikes and have had enough time to recover from making the last one. Don't get me wrong, I love guitar but I love hacking around in the recording studio -more-.

For us old Americans, the gold standard of hard rock recording was the self-titled first Montrose album, released in 1973. Ted Templeman was the producer, and prior to Van Halen 1 (Ted again!) it was THE album. Ronnie, Sammy, Bill & Denny - America's answer to Zep.

So as it happened, I was noodling one night and out popped the hook to Montrose's party track "One Thing On My Mind". I also had a new tube head from England (Victory's VX100) and an absolutely crazy tip from Masumi Hodgson that led me to an AI-based vocal extraction research project from France. One month later, I recreated that track from scratch - and on vocals, now singing in a new key... helloooo Sammy!

Everything transcribed, played, sequenced, mixed, mastered, etc. by me except for Mr. Hagar, who is unwittingly lending me his pipes here and doing a great job of it. And before the Content ID robots on kill me, thanks for listening!

Karaoke version here. Original early in-progress MIDI arrangement here.
