Production Notes - "Still I'm Sad"
Back last October I had a desire to record something strictly melodic, not shreddy, with strong guitar themes. It really cuts against the grain of modern metal to create anything pleasant that doesn't involve the words "brutal", "extreme" or "jaw-dropping", which is why I had to reach back to 1975 to redo this instrumental from Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. Originally written by Paul Samwell-Smith & Jim McCarty, this was a very unusual Yardbirds vocal track before being covered by Ritchie Blackmore not once, but twice - the second time in 1995, on "Stranger In Us All" with RJD on vocals.
This is what six weeks of work sounds like. Everything was transcribed by ear, then recorded & mixed meticulously from scratch - with real bass for a change! I'm not Blackmore, but I hope you approve of this updated version. Enjoy.
